Disney just announced that Moana 2 is coming out this November.

The surprise announcement came as part of an appearance by Disney boss Bob Iger on CNBC of all places, as Variety reports. Iger said the project was originally planned as a TV series but eventually turned into a full-length animated film sequel.

Moana 2 “takes audiences on an expansive new journey with Moana, Maui, and an all-new crew of unlikely seafarers,” according to the official synopsis.
When they receive an unexpected call from their wayward ancestors, Moana must travel to the distant seas of Oceania. And for an adventure in dangerous, long-lost waters, unlike anything she’s ever encountered.”

The original film starred Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui, and while no official cast has been announced, it seems certain that they will both return for the sequel. will The new film will be directed by Dave Derrick Jr, his first directorial role after working in the art department on animated films such as How to Train Your Dragon and Megamind. The musical will feature compositions by Grammy winners and nominees such as Abigail Barlow, Emily Beare, Opatija Foy, and Mark Mancina.

This is all in addition to the live-action Moana movie, which is set to star Johnson. However, Crovalho has confirmed that she will not be returning for the remake.

Movie theaters will host Moana 2 on November 27, 2024.
