Helldivers 2 is off to an incredible beginning.

Helldivers 2 launched earlier today, and despite being considered a niche title in the run-up to launch, it’s already managed to garner some impressive numbers. Less than 24 hours later, Helldivers 2 has already topped Steam’s top sellers list, beating games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Call of Duty, and Palworld, only Valve’s Steam deck. The popularity of Hell 2 is only more evident when you check out the game’s SteamDB page. At the time of writing, the game currently has a peak 24-hour player count of 64,183, which is an incredibly impressive number of people when you consider that it’s a school night and only has the potential to grow further as we head into the week arrive at the end of.

With this player peak, Helldivers 2 is also the third biggest launch for PlayStation Studios on PC, surpassing the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last of Us Part 1. Only Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and God of War (2018) have managed it. Helldivers 2 has only a few thousand more players than Helldivers 2 to collect more players, which are second and first respectively, and Spider-Man’s silver medal is at stake.

Unfortunately, Helldivers 2’s debut hasn’t been all roses, as fans have teased the game with a “mixed” rating. This is apparently due to some players experiencing near-constant crashes and anti-chat issues, with hundreds of negative reviews on the game’s Steam page. Some are even accusing Helldivers 2 of winning for the sake of winning despite being a cooperative game, as the Premium Battle Pass contains weapons instead of just cosmetics.

Helldivers 2 Faces Launch Issues: Developers Acknowledge and Address Bugs

Alex Boley, the game’s lead producer, is responding to the reviews, stating that the team is “doing their best to fix the issues” and urging people to submit tickets on the game’s support page to get a bigger fix. It also appears that developer Arrowhead Game Studios has also ironed out some of the major bugs causing problems, as director Mikael Erickson released a statement on Twitter stating that a major patch had recently been released.

Fortunately, it doesn’t look like the PlayStation version of Helldivers 2 is facing too many issues, so if you have a choice you might want to consider grabbing it over there, or just wait a week to get it. Arrowhead can be smoothed. Launch issues. Erickson has explained that the team will continue to work on any issues, so hopefully things will be up and running as soon as possible.
