Fortnite has rolled out its latest update patch for Chapter 5 Season 1, which many players are claiming has significantly affected the aim assist feature. The biggest aspect of the new update to Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode is proving to be divisive among players so far, with some believing it levels the playing field against mouse and keyboard players, while Others dislike the idea of an auxiliary target altogether.

Fortnite officially rolled out its v28.10 update on January 23, bringing with it tons of new content and various tweaks and updates. The Fortnite update adds Solid Snake from the popular Metal Gear Solid franchise, along with several pieces of Snake gear such as the EMP Stealth Camo and Cardboard Box. The update patch also includes balance changes for various weapon types and gameplay aspects, but aim support was surprisingly not mentioned in the patch notes on Fortnite’s official website.

Players playing Fortnite Claim Aim Assist Buff

According to Dexerto, Twitter/X user GabeCFN tweeted out the game’s update files, claiming a big buff to aim assist. This is when rumors of Fortnite’s aim assist upgrade first surfaced. After posting the aforementioned game files, GabeCFN then started posting clips of other Fortnite players also seeing the objective changes. A gameplay clip from content creator Thekidswayy effectively “demonstrates” the presence of strong aim support, with the player seemingly able to track opponents through walls. While the seemingly better aim assist might come in handy for one of Fortnite’s recent weekly quests, it’s a misnomer among competitive gamers.

Aim Assist has become a hot topic of discussion in recent weeks, with a number of FPS games being discussed for the feature. The most recent and notable example is the popular free-to-play title The Finals. Calls for changes to the game began last month after players posted examples of how helpful the assist goal was, prompting calls from its large player base. This helps address concerns with an update aimed at better balancing the feature, which Fortnite can surely follow with plenty of clamor from its players.

While Fortnite hasn’t officially stated that it has increased support for its cause, early feedback from the community seems to emphasize that this is indeed the case. It should be interesting to see how Fortnite players at large react to the changes in the coming days and weeks, and if any goaltenders will adapt as a result. Players will need to adjust from time to time, or those who want Fortnite’s best aim assist settings can manually adjust the feature themselves.
