Season 3’s companion is much stronger than everyone thinks.

Unexpectedly, the toughest bosses in Diablo 4 now face a different foe than a barbarian brandishing a massive hammer. It’s the free robot spider pet that everyone thought was useless before Blizzard dropped an emergency patch to help level it up. It is currently dealing billions of damage to endgame bosses, and it will continue to do so tomorrow.

Prior to the start of Season 3, Blizzard stated that the senile companion scales one-to-one with your character’s stats and cannot die. But when the construction season began, the governing and tuning stones that mastered it took forever to level. Players wrote off the little guy as scrap metal until a blizzard pumped up the rock fall rate significantly. Now with more and more leveled skills, players are looking for ways to maximize their damage for you farm owners.

Diablo 4 streamer Rob2628 created a robot capable of dealing billions of damage as if it were a barbarian in Season 1. To do this, he and other members of the community had to test which skills and stats transfer to the seneschal. Some legendary powers, such as those that increase your damage while you have a barrier, don’t carry over. But some others do, and Rob has shared a spreadsheet that tracks everyone’s findings so far.

Barbarians and wizards are especially good at buffing their pet’s stats with skills that seem to scale its blood and fire damage. The Firefly Governing Stone, which sends out exploding bugs, is currently one of the best attacks for robots because they can repeatedly pass through enemies with large chunks of damage from your character’s attack power and critical strikes.

Right now, it’s the fireflies that allow the Senechal to kill Echo of Duriel, a level 100 boss, in about three minutes as shown by a user on the Macroll Discord server and highlighted by Diablo streamer Vodigo. And it takes about the same amount of time to kill Echo of Lilith.

Rob suspects that each class will have some way to empower their pets, but each will require extensive testing. It might be even easier after yesterday’s patch which tweaks each of his skills. Firefly will do 10% more damage and several other skills will be 30% more powerful, hopefully giving other classes something to work with.

The build season finally feels like the build season that Blizzard originally promised. It didn’t seem right until people put enough time into how strong each of his attacks could be. He still has a hard time keeping up with you in a dungeon and struggles to clear piles of enemies, but soloing a boss that some classes can’t even do is pretty impressive. I’ll be shocked if this thing isn’t one-shotting bosses in a few days.
